3 Dead, 6 Injured in Wisconsin School Shooting

A community in mourning: Two people were killed and six others injured during a tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday morning. The incident happened just days before the school’s scheduled Christmas break, casting a shadow over the holiday season for the small religious school.

Police Chief Shon Barnes reported that officers rushed to the scene at 10:57 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about an active shooter. Medics, who had been training nearby, quickly joined the response. “They left the training center immediately and came down here — and did in real time what they were actually practicing for,” Barnes said.

When officers arrived, they found multiple victims with gunshot wounds and a deceased juvenile believed to be the shooter. The suspect appears to have been a student at the school. Officials have not disclosed the identities of the victims, awaiting family notifications.

While police believe there is no ongoing danger, surrounding schools went into lockdown as a precaution. Abundant Life Christian School, which educates around 390 students, posted a plea for support: “Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS. We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able. Please pray for our Challenger Family.”

The investigation continues, with federal agencies working to trace the firearm and uncover the shooter’s motives. President Biden has been briefed, and local authorities are receiving federal support.

This marks the 83rd school shooting in 2024, surpassing last year’s count of 82. Communities nationwide continue to grapple with the rising frequency of such tragic events.
