Donald Trump Calls Public Admiration for Alleged Shooter a “Sickness”

Date:

On Monday, President-elect Donald Trump weighed in on the recent shooting of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson and the controversial praise directed at the alleged shooter, Luigi Mangione.

“It’s really awful that some people actually admire him,” Trump stated during a press conference held at Mar-a-Lago.

He condemned the incident, saying, “It was a terrible, cold-blooded act. Just a cold-blooded, horrific killing.”

While the shooting has been denounced by many political figures, some progressive Democrats have used the event to highlight the deep-seated frustration many Americans feel toward the healthcare industry. The public reaction has been notably mixed, with some expressing sympathy for the shooter.

“We don’t support the chaos that comes with vigilantism,” Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York told Business Insider. “At the same time, we can’t ignore the immense suffering that happens when a devastating diagnosis completely upends your life. People face not just health crises but severe financial ruin for themselves and their families.”

Trump appeared baffled by the support some have shown for Mangione and questioned whether the reactions were genuine.

“It’s disturbing that people actually like this guy — that’s just sick,” Trump commented. “Maybe it’s fake news. Who knows? It’s hard to believe people could think that way, but there seems to be some appetite for it. I just don’t understand it.”
