Those who held an account with Facebook between May 2007 and December 2022 are eligible to receive a share of the $725 million lawsuit settlement that was approved by Meta, the parent company of Facebook.
Those interested can apply for the funds either online or by sending in a completed form before August 25th. The form includes your name, address, contact information, birthday, Facebook handle and payment information.
This settlement comes after the data of 87 million users was harvested without their consent in 2018 by Cambridge Analytica, who were allegedly using the data to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. After this breach of user trust was brought to light, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg was called to testify in front of Congress for his role in failing to protect the data.
