Jay Henderson’s Flow Shooting Academy: Revolutionizing Youth Basketball

Date:

Professional basketball player Jay Henderson is making a game-changing impact through his nonprofit, Flow Shooting Academy—a program designed to eliminate financial barriers and provide underprivileged children with elite basketball training at no cost.

Redefining Basketball Training

Unlike traditional summer basketball camps that come with hefty price tags, Flow Shooting Academy offers completely free training. “Let me start something totally different where kids can come and it’s free of charge,” Henderson shares, emphasizing the program’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

A Mission Rooted in Personal Experience

Henderson’s own basketball journey revealed a harsh reality: countless talented kids never get the opportunity to develop their skills simply because they can’t afford it. Reflecting on the costly camp models that dominate the sport, he posed an important question: “Why is it like that?”

Determined to challenge the status quo, Henderson founded Flow Shooting Academy in 2022. What started in Orlando quickly expanded to Miami, and in 2025, the program is set to launch in Boston—marking significant growth and community impact.

Beyond the Game: A Holistic Approach

As a professional shooting guard, Henderson brings a fresh perspective to youth training. While many programs emphasize ball handling, Flow Shooting Academy specializes in shooting technique—an often-overlooked but essential skill in basketball development.

However, the academy’s mission extends well beyond sports. It fosters holistic growth by exposing participants to valuable life skills and career opportunities, featuring:

  • Nutritionists educating kids on healthy eating habits
  • Health coaches promoting overall wellness and fitness
  • Tech professionals introducing modern career paths
  • Guest speakers from diverse industries, providing mentorship and inspiration

By integrating these elements, Flow Shooting Academy ensures young athletes become well-rounded individuals, not just better players.

Growing Recognition & Support

Henderson’s initiative has gained widespread recognition, including coverage from TMZ Sports, and secured impressive sponsorships from major brands:

  • Walmart – Supplies back-to-school essentials, camp t-shirts, and backpacks
  • Flow Water – Provides hydration for young athletes
  • Payblox – Supports camps with t-shirts, backpacks, and meals
  • Rock ‘Em Socks (partnering with Marvel, NFL, NBA, and Disney) – Supplies custom player socks
  • FX Design Group – Develops professional marketing materials
