Liam Payne, the former One Direction star, has reportedly died in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to various media outlets.
The Argentine newspaper La Nacion initially broke the news, stating that the 31-year-old singer fell from the third floor of a hotel in the city. The tragic incident has since been confirmed by ABC News and other major news sources. Payne was discovered in the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel, though details surrounding the fall remain unclear, including whether it was an accident or something more deliberate. Multiple witnesses were reportedly present at the time, according to TMZ.
Just a few days earlier, Payne had been seen in Argentina attending a concert to support his former bandmate, Niall Horan. Payne’s rise to stardom began in 2010 when he was placed in the boyband One Direction on the U.K.’s talent show The X Factor. Alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Horan, Payne became part of a global phenomenon before the group disbanded in 2015.
Payne leaves behind a 7-year-old son with his ex-partner, singer Cheryl Cole.
